Is Turning 50 Tough? Setting Goals for a New Year
“Age is not important unless you’re a cheese.” Helen Hayes Turning 50 isn’t hard in the literal sense. One day it’s a Tuesday and you are 49, the next day is a Wednesday and you are 50 years old. Sure, literally it is not difficult. But we all know how the mind plays tricks on […]
Heal Yourself: An Intermittent Fasting Life
The final post of this intermittent fasting (IF) series is here. I have reflected on how far I have come since I started practicing IF two years ago, stayed focused on my 2021 goals, and thanks to your feedback, I know I have inspired a few people. If you decide to practice IF, one thing I can guarantee is your journey will not look like mine or anyone else's journey. Now let's get into looking at what our IF practice has looked like over the last two years and talk about the changes we made to our practice.
IF Series, Part 6: Lessons Learned from Intermittent Fasting
I've met a lot of diets I loathed within weeks of starting them, sometimes less. The thought of the cabbage soup diet still gives me nightmares. Counting points, counting calories, never eating carbs again, putting food in pre-portioned boxes, 3-day detox diets, and meal prepping, honestly, all give me a massive headache. Brian and I have been practicing IF for two years and it has been the most freeing, most rewarding relationship we have ever had with food. We have learned a lot about IF and that's what I am going to talk about today.
IF Series, Part 4: The Gym Rat Turns Fat, Again
I have always loathed going to the gym. Even though I loved the girlfriends I met and the friendships I made in spin class, I hated the "eat less, move more" bandwagon I was on. I felt like if I didn't go to the gym, I would get fat. Today I am talking about what has changed since those gym days, how exercise fits into our intermittent fasting (IF) lifestyle, and how we have come to enjoy exercising again.
IF Series, Part 3: The Prison of Guilty Eating
Food is not in a pill. It's not in a juice, a bar, a diet label, and it definitely is not in a pill. Food is real. It is crunchy, flavorful, chewy, colorful, and can bring people great joy. We need food to live and it is meant to be enjoyed. If you eat something because a diet plan tells you to eat it and it doesn't bring you joy, I get it. I have been eating foods that I don't enjoy for too long. Guilt and food describe my life in short. Read on to discover how I learned to eat again with intermittent fasting.
Intermittent Fasting Series, Part 2: The Yo-Yo Diet Run for My Life
I have no idea how people live a happy, food-fulfilled life on only 1,200 calories, eating salads and diet coke, endlessly exercising, and counting calories every single day to make sure they don't go over. I was a skinny girl who struggled to live while my hormones continued to rage out of control because the weight started to fluctuate...a lot. Alas, the yo-yo diet run for my life begins again.
Intermittent Fasting Series, Part 1: How To Not Lose Weight with Intermittent Fasting
We started our intermittent fasting (IF) journey in mid-January 2019. It was not a New Years Resolution. It was not something we had ever heard of before that day in mid-January. We continue to practice IF years later with no weight loss. In this series we will discuss why we did it, what we learned, and why we still practice IF.
The 21 Pound Turkey… How to Handle Dreaded Holiday Leftovers!
In the midst of the COVID virus pandemic, we purchased a 21-pound turkey for two and it’s a good thing we love turkey leftovers! Now don’t get me wrong, I can only eat Thanksgiving (or Christmas) dinner with all of the trimmings twice at most but take that holiday turkey and divide it into dinner-sized […]
Recipe of the Month: Easy Short Ribs with Mushroom Risotto
When most people think about camping, they dream about roasting hotdogs and making s’mores over the campfire. When we go on our extended trips, that would get old really fast! We only eat hotdogs two or three times during our entire summer trip. Since I love to cook, I’m always trying to get creative without […]
